Whether you need to have a small cavity filled or want a full set of veneers, you can rest assured that Summit Dental Group offers the best smile restorations to meet your needs. Our dedicated team of dental professionals use the most advanced technology and therapies available in order to maintain the health and appearance of your smile.
Best Smile Restorations
Best smile restorations is a broad term used to describe the various treatments we offer to restore tooth structure. While some restorations are restorative in nature like dental implants, others are more cosmetic like dental veneers which help to cover chips, cracks, stains and minor misalignments. Additionally, best smile restorations also address varying degrees of tooth decay such as dental fillings, inlays, onlays and dental crowns.
Crafting best smile restorations depends on the nature of the restoration. In the past, most restorations were created off-site at a dental lab. This meant that impressions would be taken at a Boise dental office and a patient would have to wear a temporary restoration until the permanent restoration was created.
However, with today’s advancements in dental technology, the downtown Boise dentists at Summit Dental can craft crowns, inlays, onlays and other basic restorations in just one day with CEREC® dental restoration technology.
Care & Maintenance
With basic dental restorations, the key to maintaining good dental hygiene is to brush and floss your teeth twice daily (ideally after every meal), and to visit your downtown Boise dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings. This will help keep harmful bacteria at bay while removing unwanted food particles and plaque buildup.
If you get Boise dental implants to support and replace missing teeth, it’s important to practice good dental hygiene to ensure your implants remain healthy. After surgery, you will need to follow the post-surgery instructions closely. After healing, however, regular brushing and flossing are key. You’ll want to delicately brush around the abutments and surrounding teeth. It’s also just as important to visit your downtown Boise dentist regularly.

However, the dentists at Summit Dental Group want you to know that it’s absolutely achievable. Thanks to porcelain veneers your smile can get a mini-makeover in as little as one or two office visits.
VENEERS WORK TO FIX MULTIPLE PROBLEMS
Veneers are small shells of porcelain that are bonded to the surface of your teeth. Veneers are customized and designed by your Boise dentist to fit your teeth perfectly. If you are affected by one or more of the following problems, porcelain veneers may be the perfect solution:
- Stubborn stains
- Misaligned teeth
- Teeth that are too large or small
- Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
- Teeth that have large gaps between them

Porcelain veneers can radically improve your smile and overall appearance if you have teeth that are affected by one or more aesthetic problem. The beauty of this Boise dental treatment is that it can fix multiple problems at once, even if your teeth are discolored, misaligned, or uneven.
The benefits of veneers go far beyond the way you look. Most people with porcelain veneers agree that the biggest benefit is how it’s made them feel about themselves. This Boise dental treatment will not only provide you with the freedom to smile and laugh but boost your self-confidence as well.
VENEERS PROVIDE A NEAR-INSTANT SOLUTION

Not only that but veneers can be fitted in as few a two dental visits, whereas other dental treatments can take weeks or even months to complete.
The fact is, there are no other Boise dental treatments that can do what veneers can: provide a quick solution for multiple oral health issues, providing you with a great-looking smile and a boost of confidence to show them off. During the winter, when the daylight hours are scarce, we tend to celebrate the season with holiday lights and good cheer. It’s a time of hope and renewal that provides us with the opportunity to think about the future, take stock of where we’ve been, and make lasting resolutions for the new year. While we all tend to make healthy resolutions to improve our daily lives, what about making a resolution to smile? It’s not something most people tend to think of as a resolution, but when you consider the many benefits of fixing cracked, broken, stained or missing teeth you might just agree.
If your smile is suffering from ageing, accidents, decay or disease then you could benefit from a best smile restoration at Summit Dental. Our Boise dentists are dedicated to providing you with a beautiful, natural smile that lasts.
Best Smile Restorations
Teeth Whitening – Many people consider white teeth to be an attractive feature of a smile. With a simple, one hour, in-office “laser” teeth whitening treatment, the Boise dentists at Summit Dental can help remove stubborn stains and provide you with long-lasting (white) results.
Porcelain Veneers – Dental veneers are used to repair chipped, broken, cracked, or discolored teeth. A veneer is a thin porcelain shell that is bonded over the top of a damaged tooth to resolve any unwanted aesthetic issues. Veneers are also used to help close gaps between teeth or reform oddly shaped teeth as well.
Boise Dental Implants – Dental implants are often a superior option compared to traditional treatments such as bridges or partial dentures. Implants are permanently placed in the jaw and do not require any special cleaning procedures besides normal brushing and flossing. They are similar in form and function to natural teeth and can replace one or more damaged or missing teeth.
Crowns and Bridges – If a tooth is cracked, damaged or has a large filling that has failed, a crown is the preferred method of restoration. A crown is essentially used to cap, or completely cover a tooth. Crowns can be made by your Boise dentist to match the color of your tooth, giving it a natural look while restoring its normal function. Like crowns, a dental bridge is another method of restoration. However, a bridge is used to replace a missing tooth by joining permanently to adjacent teeth or other Boise dental implants.
A New Year, A New You
If you are afraid to smile or just not proud of your smile, make it more than a resolution to just “fix it”. When you’re ready to make a lasting change by investing in your health, confidence, and well-being, contact Summit Dental Group at (208) 345-8962 to schedule an appointment. Whether you’re interested in porcelain veneers, dental implants or teeth whitening, our Boise dentists are here to help!
At Summit Dental Group, we want our patients to feel confident and active while doing the things they love. When you go out, we understand how important it is to look and feel your best. When you put so much effort into making sure your hair and clothes look just right, why not do the same for your teeth? If something about your teeth is making you feel self-conscious, let our Boise dentists help you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted. By utilizing the latest dental technology along with the most advanced dental techniques, we have helped countless people within the Treasure Valley achieve beautiful, confident, and lasting smiles.
Teeth whitening – Over time, our teeth can become yellowed and discolored. In fact, many of our favorite foods and beverages are known to affect the shade and color of your smile. Additionally, personal habits like smoking can also speed up the staining process. At Summit Dental, our Boise dentists can help to remove years of stains in just a single office visit with our laser teeth whitening treatment. We can also provide you with at-home whitening trays or Crest Professional White Strips that are 4 times stronger and faster than the store bought brand.
Veneers -Transform your smile dramatically in just a few weeks with veneers. Veneers resemble small tooth colored shells that your Boise dentist can bond over your teeth. They help to perfect your smile while hiding little imperfections like crooked teeth, gaps, and discoloration.
Dental crowns – If you’ve suffered from tooth decay that resulted in severe damage, a Boise dental crown can help. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but it will help to protect your damaged tooth while restoring its functionality. At Summit Dental we are proud to offer CEREC crowns that can be created and placed in just a single office visit.
Dental bridges – Used with Boise dental crowns, a bridge may be recommended if you’re missing one or more teeth. They help span the space where teeth are missing. Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space.
Dental implants – If you have lost a tooth, your Boise dentist can replace it with dental implants. Dental implants are metal posts or frames that replace the root of a lost tooth. It is surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath your gums. Once in place, replacement teeth are then mounted onto them for a long lasting, stable, and secure fit.

First impressions are everything. Especially when it comes to your smile as it’s often the first thing people notice about you. However, a chipped tooth might have you hiding your smile while damaging your self confidence in the process. Fortunately, your Boise dentist can easily repair a broken or chipped tooth. In fact, Summit Dental has several treatment options depending on the nature of the damage:
Dental bonding is one of the quickest and low cost options when it comes to repairing a chipped tooth. This treatment involves the application of a composite filling material that your Boise dentist will shape and color, matching your original tooth. There is little to no need to remove any tooth enamel. The best part? If you were able to preserve the chipped off portion (and it isn’t damaged), your Boise dentist may be able to reattach it!
A Boise dental veneer (like the one pictured above) can be used to hide small, damaged areas of a tooth. Veneers are thin, custom made shells placed on the front of a tooth in order to hide any flaws. However, with this option, some removal of the existing tooth enamel is often necessary in order to fit the veneer so that it’s flush and blends in with the surrounding teeth.
A crown is often the best choice when a relatively large portion of a tooth is missing. A crown will fully incase the visible portion of what remains of the original tooth above the gum line. It is shaped and sized to match the original tooth perfectly. Ceramic material and porcelain fused to metal crowns are often used for this treatment. In either case, the material will match the color of your other teeth. Keep in mind however, that some of the existing tooth enamel will be removed in order to allow the crown to fit over it.
While we all know that accidents are bound to happen every now and again, there are however a few steps you can take in order to reduce your risk for experiencing a chipped or broken tooth:
- Always wear a mouthguard when playing sports.
- Refrain from grinding or clenching your teeth.
- Don’t chew on ice, inedible things or hard candies.
- And last but not least, NEVER use your teeth as a tool for opening things!

Just because someone’s famous doesn’t mean they’re immune to seeking out proper dental care. In fact, at some point during their lives they had their now pearly whites either fixed or enhanced by means of cosmetic dentistry. Below are some good examples of celebs we love that would have looked quite differently today if they hadn’t sought out a best smile restoration:
1. Tom Cruise – Who can forget this young hunk from the wrong side of the tracks in “The Outsiders”? While his part as Steve Randle definitely helped jump start his movie-making career, his teeth at the time didn’t live up to movie star standards. Actually, it wasn’t until his “Mission Impossible” days that he upgraded to a full set of veneers. While our Boise dentist would like to take credit for his transformation, it was probably Nicole Kidman who finally convinced him to seek out his best smile restoration.
2. Jim Carrey – Who can forget the infamous Lloyd Christmas from our favorite “Dumb & Dumber” movie? This rubber-faced comedian famously sported a chipped front tooth which he later revealed was real. In fact, he chipped his tooth while in detention during his youth in grammar school and was sent home with the broken tooth in an envelope. For his role as Lloyd Christmas he later removed the cap in order to make his character even funnier.
3. Victoria Beckham – Once upon a time, “Posh Spice” from the “Spice Girls” had what some people might call as the “British Snaggle”. In fact, her teeth look a whole lot different now than they did at the beginning of her pop singing career. Her best smile restoration probably included what our Boise dentist would recommend as a little cosmetic dentistry.
4. Ed Helms – In the 2009 smash hit comedy, “The Hangover” Helm’s tiger stealing character “Stu” loses a tooth after taking a punch from Mike Tyson. In reality Helms actually pulled out what our Boise dentist would say was a dental implant by having the crown broken off and post unscrewed from the implant!
Remember, while you’re probably happy to hear that celebrities are in reality people like you and me, you too can have an Oscar-winning smile by simply brushing, flossing, and regularly visiting your Boise dentist. Broken or damaged teeth? Our Boise dentist has you covered. Make an appointment today to discuss your best smile restoration!
If you are an avid reader of the Summit Dental blog, you’ve heard about our dental veneers more than once. Now, however, is a time for us to lay out exactly what they are, how they work, and why you might need them.
1. What Are Dental Veneers?
Image via Flickr by Dr. Alper, DMD, Cosmetic Dentist
A Dental veneer is a thin sheet of porcelain designed to lay over a patient’s front tooth. They can be compared to a slimmed-down crown. Instead of creating a crown that recreates a whole tooth, however, a veneer just recreates the front and edge of a tooth.
2. How Do I get a Dental Veneer?
First, a Boise dentist from our office will begin with a diagnostic appointment to see what you are looking for and if a dental veneer will get the job done. Then, our Boise dentist creates a digital mock-up to make sure you like the look of the veneers, and we’ll prepare your teeth for them while our in-office CEREC machine creates your dental veneer. Once that is finished, we’ll attach the veneer with a temporary glue to make sure you like the final look, and then we’ll bond them to your teeth permanently! For a quick demonstration on how a Boise dentist would install dental veneers, take a look at this short animated video.
3. Why Do I Need Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers can be used to repair a chip, a broken tooth, a crack, an odd tooth shape, or a discolored tooth. Sometimes a patient will notice that not all their teeth responded to teeth whitening, leaving one tooth darker and discolored while the others are white. Another tooth could be too small or too short to be even with the other teeth. Dental veneers fix these problems without altering the original tooth too much. As long as the patient’s tooth is still sound, a Boise dentist may be able to get you a dental veneer instead of a crown.
Looking to get a chip fixed or hoping to even out the shape or color of your front teeth? Give a Boise dentist a call at Summit Dental! Our office is always friendly and eager to help, and we may be able to get you a dental veneer in a single one-day appointment!
Worried about your first cosmetic dental appointment? Put your fears aside with this quick overview of your appointment at our Boise dental office. Your first appointment generally has three parts: expectations, evaluation, and consultation.
You can help us give you the best care by preparing for your appointment before you even arrive at our Boise dentist office. One of the first things we want to know when you head into your appointment is what expectations you have, so come to our office prepared to let us know what you are looking for and what concerns you have. Consider if you looking to fix a distinct problem, or if you want some general ideas on how to improve your whole smile.
If you want any changes completed by a certain date, now is the time to tell us (for example, many people come in for changes before an important day like graduation or their wedding). We will do our best to accommodate you!
If you are a new patient, we will give you a comprehensive new patient exam. This will help us understand if there are any underlying problems we need to address before deciding on a cosmetic procedure.
During a comprehensive exam, we will check for oral cancer, cavities, and evidence of periodontal disease or teeth grinding or clenching. We will also take x-rays to look for tooth decay, bone loss, and other major problems. Our goal is to give you a healthy and functional smile in addition to a beautiful smile. By addressing all the issues you have, not just cosmetic issues, we can save you time, money, and discomfort.
Once we fully understand what you want and what needs to be done, we will discuss the various options you have for a smile restoration or other procedure. Some of the procedures we may discuss include teeth whitening, ceramic crowns and porcelain veneers. If you need some teeth to be replaced, we can discuss the difference between a dental implant and a bridge. If you are looking for a full smile restoration, we will probably recommend a blend of these procedures, covering some teeth with veneers or crowns while whitening others and possibly replacing missing or severely damaged teeth.
In addition to giving you the smile you are looking for, we will also mention any other problems you may want to address. This could include getting a mouth guard to prevent further damage to your teeth from grinding or clenching, or it could mean starting some periodontal treatments for periodontitis.
We want to make every patient in the Treasure Valley area feel comfortable and confident during their appointments in our Boise dentist office. We hope that this overview helped give you a better idea of what to expect when you walk through our doors.

Restoring a smile depends heavily on what you want or need. Do you have missing teeth? Decayed or chipped teeth? Do you simply want whiter teeth? All these factors play into what kind of procedures the Boise dentists at Summit Dental will use.
Veneers and Crowns
The most common procedures for smile restorations are porcelain veneers and crowns. While made of the same material and resulting in the same effect (white, smooth teeth), veneers and crowns each have their own uses. Veneers are thin layers of porcelain that can change the shade and shaping of a tooth that is discolored or chipped, in addition to smoothing out spacing issues such as crowded teeth or excess spacing. They work well when replacing old fillings and are best used on teeth that have a sound structure. If your teeth are structurally sound or the veneers are strictly for cosmetic purposes, veneers could be your best option.
If your teeth are significantly worn down or need more protection, you may need to consider a porcelain crown instead. A crown is a covering for a tooth that improves strength as well as appearance. They can restore a broken or worn down tooth, mask flaws in color and shape, and strengthen a tooth that was composed of more filling than tooth structure. Crowns are a good fit for teeth that are significantly decayed or that don’t have as much healthy teeth structure.
Implants and Bridges
Need a smile restoration for missing teeth? Implants and bridges are reliable replacements for missing teeth that will give you what feels and looks like a real tooth. When you have lost a tooth, replacing it with an implant can prevent jawbone deterioration and further tooth loss in addition to giving you a great smile. The post placed in your jawbone acts as the tooth’s root, keeping the jawbone strong. The crown attached to this post keeps the surrounding teeth in the right place, gives you a strong tooth for eating and chewing, and completes your smile with a tooth that is identical in shape and color with your other teeth. If you already have an implant but want an even further restored smile, replacing this crown in addition to adding porcelain veneers or crowns to your other teeth is an excellent way to get your ideal smile.
Each of your teeth may be unique; some may be worn down, others simply discolored, and so on. For the best smile restoration, our Boise dentists can use a combination of veneers, crowns, and implants to give you your most winning smile. In addition, while some of your teeth may need a porcelain veneer or crown, some may only require a little teeth whitening. Check out our previous blog on teeth whitening for more information on these procedures.

Ever wondered what exactly “cosmetic dentistry” means? You may be surprised to find out that it means more than teeth whitening. Not only does cosmetic dentistry improve the appearance of a person’s teeth, it can also correct functional problems with your bite or teeth structure. It covers a wide range of procedures that can eliminate problems with chips, cracks, cavities, and missing teeth. Three common procedures that you can find at Summit Dental in Boise include smile restorations, dental implants, and composite fillings.
Smile makeovers and restorations can include a wide variety of procedures. The dentist will look at your smile and suggest the procedures that will give you the best result. This can include teeth whitening in addition to porcelain veneers and crowns. Teeth whitening can either be done in the office in a single appointment or at home with a customized whitening kit. Porcelain veneers are laid on the surface of teeth to eliminate chips, cracks, or discoloration. Porcelain crowns offer similar results while covering the entire tooth.
Implants are used to replace missing teeth. They generally involve the post, which is attached to the jawbone, and the crown, which is attached to the post so that the patient has a new permanent “tooth” in both appearance and functionality. With color matching, the porcelain crowns for implants and smile makeovers can match your own teeth so exactly that they naturally blend into your smile for a unified look.
Colored, no-metal fillings are an excellent replacement for worn-out or decayed metal fillings. Not only do they match the color of your teeth, they will also stay more resistant to staining and discoloration. When you have a cavity or other problem on a visible part of your smile, composite fillings give you the protection you need while maintaining a great smile. Composite fillings are also a great alternative to other fillings due to their strength.
Think you might need a smile makeover, or have questions about composite fillings or implants? We would love to hear from you! Give us a call or stop by our Boise office.
